While the boy was away fishing with his father, Ume took this opportunity to wander around the forest in his human form. It was a practice he didn't do very often, but he tried to patrol in this form as much as possible. After all, people seemed to take to traveling humans more than they did wild dogs. And while he was in his dog form, he had a 'secret identity' of sorts to keep to the people outside of Kusa. As far as they knew, he was just a wild dog. Most didn't even know that he, technically though he denied it, had 'owners' here in the Agata Forest, and only women and children seemed very receptive to receiving help from a dog. Couple that with the faith people seemed to be losing in the Gods, and there was really little chance of them accepting that a dog wanted to protect them from danger. Not unless they were being attacked by something that was clearly, without a shadow of a doubt, a demon. To Ume, he absolutely had no idea how there ever could be any doubt to begin with. This new trend he noticed was beginning to annoy him. Ume's first stop was the tree where he hid his katana, a weapon he picked up from Kusa when he learned how to master his human form. Which took a considerable amount of time, all things considered. Two legs as compared to four was a major balance difference, and Ume had many a wars with gravity, all of which he lost until he learned how to walk and stand properly. Now, he walked casually. Not even trying to mask the sound of his footsteps. Once he had his sheathed blade slid into place on his right hip, he started his patrol. Wondering how the Gods were handling the decreasing amount of faith from the ignorant humans, and if something on a much greater scale was happening that he just didn't know about. Not that it would as any great surprise to him, he always left out of the loop out here.
