Beautiful.... As Kagura looked around, that was all she could think of it. The ocean sparkled under the bright sun, and sunken ship aside it was quite gorgeous. This is where that romantic spot is right? What was the name again...? Kagura probably strained herself more than what was necessary most people would say they couldn't remember and move on. But it seemed that her resilience transferred to her stubbornness, even concerning the smallest most seemingly insignificant matters.
"Oh! That's right!" |
She exclaimed, clapping her hands together in excitement at the same time. She didn't really care whether or not anyone heard her, though her voice didn't really carry very far. "It was called the Moon Turret!" She was proud of herself for remembering, but suddenly started glancing around her everywhere. She was making herself look absolutely insane, talking to herself. "Oh well," she sighed, "can't be helped I guess...." It wasn't like she had anyone else to talk to. Unlike Zakuro, who had Monderno, Kagura didn't have a traveling companion. She never had the hear to actually attempt to catch an animal, nor to allow an innocent animal into the chaos that was her life. No. She could not drag innocence into this, not people and not animals. She may not be exactly spiritual or particularly religious, and she may have lost almost all of her faith in humanity, but she still recognized when other people needed to protected, and did her best to do so. Either from a demon, or from herself. Not that she was any direct threat to a person, but her life had its own demons she needed to worry about. She didn't think she'd capable of splitting her focus to constantly be protecting a traveling companion. Kagura was powerful, but she was no Zakuro. Kagura sighed, now suddenly quite depressed, and walked over to the beach area of the Ryoshima Coast, sitting down on the sand. She wasn't particularly nit-picky about her clothes getting a little dirty, because she always made sure to wash up at night and in the morning. She was a woman after all, cleanliness was important to her.

There were many places in this world where a traveling person could end up at some particular moment in time. So it wasn't much of a surprise to Reikonfumetsu himself that he would end up at the Moon Turret this day. Well... who better than him to know where he would end up, after all? Perhaps that talking fish swimming around in the water knew better... it was constantly and annoyingly winking at Reikon. The man was sure that the fish was up to no good. Talking fish never were.
So, naturally, Reikon took a dive for the nearest reed bush and decided to lay there motionlessly until the fish either confessed or went away. Neither was happening for around 2 hours, now the wandering shaman was starting to lose his patience. One could resist the power of talking fish only for so long. They were quite devious. Curse them!
Reikon nearly had a heart attack when he heard someone talking! And it turned out that it wasn't the fish confessing. Someone else was present on the beach nearby and from the looks of it, and the sound of voice specifically, it was a girl. The Shaman carefully peeked through the reed and saw the girl whose voice he heard. She was a young woman, somewhat petite of build and had aqua-blue eyes. She seemed pretty depressed too... which was not a good thing. So, being the kind, good-hearted, awesome, friendly person he is - Reikon decided to cheer her up. He'd just have to deal with that fish later.
So Reikon rolled out of the reed and onto the bare sand right beside her. Before she could show a reaction or say anything he greeted her, still laying on his back:
"Moshimoshi, ahoy and konichiwa!" he exclaimed, showing a rather wide and happy grin. "I could not help but overhear your sadness, Hime-chan! Could this traveler be of any help to you?" he gestured to himself with his hand, keeping the grin present on his face still.
Talking to strangers was easy for Reikon. Although he would warn children not to talk to strangers like him... and definitely not to talk to living rice balls. They were even worse than talking fish... even if rice balls couldn't talk - bless the Divines for that small miracle!

The sudden voice startled Kagura, and she flinched before rapidly turning on her heels, though she suppressed her gasp of surprise well enough that it didn't surface. The man was laying on his back, staring up at her, and she couldn't help but wonder just how sane he really was. His next words seemed kind enough, but she still blinked at him for a moment, not really confused just trying to come out of her state of shock. She wasn't used to strangers just popping up and talking to her. Especially not nice strangers. Thugs, bandits, demons, okay yeah. She had plenty of experience dealing with that. But this man expressed that he wanted to help her, or more specifically cheer her up. How did she respond to that? She mentally shook herself, staring was certainly rude and not helpful. "I just don't like traveling alone." She answered, a friendly yet somewhat unsure smile forming on her features. "It's lonely." She added, though she made no mention of her older sister. Instinct preventing her from revealing too much specific information about herself. She was secretive when she felt she needed to be, and this was certainly an example of that. "I'm Kagura by the way." She added, remembering that the stranger had addressed her as 'Hime-chan'. She realized that she probably shouldn't have revealed her name to a complete stranger, but what's done is done. She couldn't take the words back now, and only time would tell if it had been a mistake. She hoped not. The last thing she wanted was to reunite with an angry Zakuro. That was more terrifying that anything else Kagura could come up with at the moment, except from the fact that Zakuro would be right to be furious. If Kagura had just made a mistake, she had just put her entire family in jeopardy.

Reikon titled his head, listening to the girl attentively. She did not like traveling alone and that was pretty much it... or not. Though Reikonfumetsu was no magical creature who could detect lies, he still knew that strangers never gave their true reasons to anything. It would be no surprise if the girl told him the truth in an hour or two... IF she was lying right now, that is. That would make her lies truth and her truth lies, rather now she could be telling the truth and lie later... or... Reikon furrowed his brow, somewhat lost in the chain of thought.
He quickly brushed the nonsense away and hopped up into a standing position, smiling at the girl before him:
"Kagura-hime-chan, it is then!" he spoke, somewhat bowing. "And you can call me Reikonfumetsu the Wanderer... or just Reikon for short." he scratched his left brow. "Humans do tend to have difficulties with my beautiful and grand name, so I guess it's no problem if you use the short version."
He smiled again and leaned into her face quite quickly, with a single fast movement of his upper body, whispering:
"But don't let the talking fish know! If they hear my name they will haunt me forever!" he quickly placed his hands on his mouth and ran around her, hiding, so that Kagura was between him and the water. "Ano-o... do you have any blessed food? I am rather hungry from staying in that reed bush for two hours. And I would rather not eat cursed food - it places the curse upon the eater as soon as they swallow it!"
Reikon's face now showed a hint of fear that seeped into his voice. Cursed food was... bad.
The man then leaped backwards and suddenly cartwheeled to the side, speaking up again:
"And I guess we could travel together, if you want to. Although on one condition..." he stopped moving altogether and looked around, as if he was paranoid... or maybe he was... and turned back to face Kagura. "... just a quick question - you're not crazy are you? I've had my share of companions that were rather... umm - crazy! One even tried to convince me that fish could not talk and trees did not try to kill people in their sleep - silly man."
Reikon grinned widely, hoping that Kagura wasn't one of those crazies.

So...he was going to insist on calling her that wasn't he...? Kagura wasn't certain how she really felt about that with any clarity. It wasn't that the meaning had her uncertain, she just didn't know how she felt about being referred to in such a manner, she wasn't used to it. And then...it was like a stream of endless words came from the man's mouth. She had a difficult time keeping up with everything he said, since he said it all so fast, but she was certain that he was at least a little bit insane. Especially when he mentioned the talking fish. Kagura was familiar with the demonic creatures of this land, she grew up here. But it was odd to actually hear someone mention them. And then there was the manner in which he regarded humans.... He spoke of them as though he wasn't included among the species, but everything about him seemed human enough to her. What was he then? She supposed that, if he honestly wasn't human, then he could really be anything. Her lack of religious beliefs would prevent her from recognizing a Celestial God, not that she believed in them, and she heard that there were other creatures in this world that could take a human form. Those she believed in. Could this guy get any weirder? Not that I judge really.... Yes, yes she had a feeling he could. Not that she was in any position to be judging who was strange and who wasn't, considering the fact that she talked to herself most of the time nowadays. "I'll go with Reikon-san." She said with a friendly smile, being a bit more respectful when it came to the name. Just so that she was friendly and avoided stepping on anybody's toes. Because this guy was either human and extremely narcissistic, or not human. And either way, she didn't want to piss him off. "And don't worry, I'll keep your name secret from the talking fish." She added with sincere and determined nod. She could at least manage that, right? And then there was the...'crazy speech' she had to address. "Ummm...I don't think I'm crazy...." She said thoughtfully, putting on a thinking face and feeling herself slip more into a comfortable personality. She was just taken off guard by Reikon, but now she was a bit more used to him. "I mean, I talk to myself sometimes, but that's only because there's no one else to really talk to." Was she crazy? As if there was any doubt. But honestly, wasn't everyone at least a tiny bit crazy in this world? Was there such a thing as perfect sanity? She giggled at the thought of the impossible. "Nope! I don't think I'm crazy like that man you just described! Clearly he does not get out much!" She with a small giggle. Of course, being a bit of an old traveler in the sense that she traveled quite a lot and for many years, she has seen many strange things in her lifetime. Demons for instance, which was probably because of the negative energy she was exposed to thanks to her brother. Because everything bad in her life could definitely be blamed on him. "I wouldn't mind traveling together for a while! We can watch each other's backs, ya know? Where are you heading?" Now it was her who was talking too much. "And oh, by the way," she said suddenly, "you really don't have to call me 'hime-chan'. Kagura is just fine." She said with a smile, hoping that Reikon wouldn't take that the wrong way. Really, if he continued to insist then it would just be a 'to each his own' situation and she would never bring it up again. Unless of course he started to tease her with the nickname, then she would react playfully and with a touch of sarcasm. Then she remembered he had asked if she had any food, among many other things he said. "As for food...I kinda just take what nature offers me." She said, averting her eyes with a touch of shame. She felt bad that she couldn't help him, but she only hunted, be it berries or animals, when she was hungry. Though she always said a small prayer of thanks when she killed an animal, strange considering she had lost her faith. "If you’re hungry, I get us something to eat. And then you can bless it so it won't be cursed!" She offered, turning her gaze back to Reikon because she felt much better having made the offer. Honestly, why she was allowing herself to get so close to someone was beyond her. Even if they weren't technically 'close' by any means. What she was doing was still dangerous, and her mentally shivered to think what Zakuro would do if she found out Kagura had just accepted a traveling companion. Although it was rude to wish, Kagura hoped their journey together would be a short one, for both of their sakes. Reikon was much safer the farther away he was from her.

Reikon beamed at her, letting her talk until she was finished. She was such a sweet girl - so thoughtful! Sometimes it was just delightful to meet someone such as her and just talk and walk together and stuff. He would certainly love to help her get out of quicksand if she jumped into some. Such a fun game it was and most important of all - perfectly safe!
So Reikon simply walked up to the water, still keeping his gaze on the girl and sat down by the water, looking a lot more pacified than he was just a moment ago. He let his feet slip into the cold, fresh water and he looked up at her, sideways, still grinning:
"You know Kagura-chan... I think that talking to yourself is the most sane thing to do in this wide, mad world." he let a chuckle escape his lips. ""After all... who shuns away from a heart to heart talk with oneself and the only person who can understand you perfectly, hmmmm?" he finished, humming at her questioningly and grinning even wider.
He then patted the sand beside him, asking her to sit down as well:
"Don't worry about the talking fish though. They won't hear my name underwater! They actually need to show their heads above the water to hear anything. Silly, right?" he stared into the distance and sighed under his breath. "As for where I am traveling..." he paused for a moment, deliberately showing her that he thought about that answer. "... I guess I just go wherever the wind of Fate takes me, princess." he glanced sideways at her behind his slitted eyes.
Perhaps it was something about her, but he liked the idea of likening her to a princess. Maybe she was one? He could never tell... and even if she was not one he could still think she was. He wondered if she could spend at least a few days in his company and still accept him... he doubted that, but then again - "You judge the book by it's cover." and he allowed only a few small glimpses beyond that cover of his. He surely wouldn't want anyone looking under his skin... he was all meat and bones under there. Nasty! Reikon suddenly felt like changing his train of thought:
"And you? Where do the spirits point, Kagura-chan? Do they sing of happy roads, profit and family... or are there Demons you left in your wake that do "the chasing" now?" he asked her in a tone one would ask if the weather was nice. He observed her carefully from where he sat.

After all, hadn't he just been hiding from a demon fish? Wasn't it dangerous, more than just a little risky, to be so close as to allow his feet to slip into the water? Granted, he was far from being away from the safety the shoreline, and her blade, offered. Thus, she promptly refocused her mind on Reikon's words, as he didn't seem to be the least bit concerned about the talking fish any longer.
She opened her mouth to reply just as he patted the sand beside him, causing Kagura to blink at him in a moment of temporary confusion. And who could really blame her? Though she didn't like to admit it, she wasn't used to a friendly gesture when something wasn't expected from her in return. Still, she moved to sit beside him just as he began speaking once more, this time about the fish.
She was glad that Reikon had something, and couldn't help a small and somewhat sheepish grin at his words, a slight, soft rosy color tinting her cheeks. She was a bit embarrassed that he seemed to have her concerns so easily, and briefly fretted about whether or not she looked weak. However, those thoughts were ripped from her mind once Reikon continued speaking, just as she had been about to comment on her relief, but she paused. Allowing him to continue and listening intently, so as to not be rude.
As she listened, Kagura's gaze shifted to the water near her feet. Up to that point, she had sat so that her arms wrapped around her legs, securely yet loosely. She had also made certain not to sit too close to Reikon, to avoid popping anyone's bubble of personal space. She had kept her feet out of the water from fear of the demon fish, but Reikon's comforting information had assured her enough that it was okay. Not only that, but she reminded herself that she was not defenseless. And that if the demon fish did decide to attack, it would have to get past her blade to injure her or Reikon.
That in mind, Kagura tentatively allowed her feet to inch towards the water, pausing when her toes were just barely caressed by the gently lapping waves of the shoreline, unabe to restrain a small smile of relief. The coolness of the water felt good on her feet, and she promptly stripped them so that they could be dipped into the water bare. She hadn't realized how sore she was until that moment, and glanced at Reikon to let him know she was listening. Though she couldn't push down another one of those soft, slight rosy colored blushed when Reikon called her 'princess'. This time, it wasn't tacked on to the end of her name, and spoken more like a nickname.
She didn't know how she felt about being called a princess, for she certainly felt she was nowhere near such a calibar of person. However, this time she did not correct Reikon, and only let him finish speaking before she spoke up to reply. This time her gaze fixed on Reikon's. "I suppose your right, Reikon-san. About talking to myself I mean." |
She said, starting with the first thing he mentioned, which also gave her body time to relax. The color to her cheeks gradually returning to normal. "Talking to myself probably is one of the 'lesser evils' so to speak. I mean, I'm no psychopathic killer or anything, so that's a plus right?" She said with a chuckle, meaning it as a joke. Though her chuckle slowly became embarrassed when she realized it might not be taken that way, and she cleared throat softly to recollect herself before continuing. "As for the demon fish, that is rather strange. Though, it definitely is a plus for us, since they can't hear us talking and therefore probably aren't a threat to us." She said with a smile, though she quickly realized how those words might make her look weak. And she didn't want that. Comrade, or potential enemy, she didn't want Reikon to have to wrong impression of her so soon. It could lead to unnecessary danger, in more ways than one. "And even if it did make itself a threat, it would be met by my blade, have no doubt, Reikon-san. I can defend us." She recovered with a confident grin. Not so much arrogant, as she was neither vein nor arrogant, but confident in her skills. She has dealt with many different evils before, and knew she could definitely handle a demon fish should it choose to attack. However, Kagura took a moment of pause before answering Reikon's question, his final comment. Her gaze flickered across the features of his face before turning momentarily to the horizon, a pensive look on her face. Just how much should she tell him? She pondered hard on what to say, how much to say, and just how to say it. But she didn't take too long, and only used up the moment of hesitation she figured was allowable. To show that she was giving some thought to her answer, just as he had. And she had come to the conclusion she had sensed she would from the very beginning: she could not reveal Zakuro's identity to this man. Traveling companion or not, he didn't need to know everything about her. Or anything about her at all in all honesty. "I'm actually a bit of a mix, Reikon-san." She said, returning her eyes to Reikon's as she spoke, a small smile coming to her face. "I am on my way to meet with someone, but the path I take there is not set in stone. In essence, I travel down the path the wind guides me, but in one general direction." She explained, tilting her head downwards a tad in embarrassment when she realized just how little sense that really made. "If that...makes any sense...." She could feel the heat rushing to her face, but pushed it down with frustration that did not show itself anywhere in her outward appearance. It was directed at herself, for she was not used to being so easily flustered around people. There was definitely something about Reikon that made her instinctively nervous, but just what that aspect about him was she couldn't quite put her finger on it. However, since they were going to be spending at least the next few days together, Kagura figured she'd find out just what that was eventually. And so, she did nothing to press the matter at the moment. Judgements could come later, after she had more of a feel for her new temporary traveling companion. And come they most certainly would, for survival more than because she was a judgmental person. She just needed to know just how much she could trust Reikon with, even though the general rule was trust them with nothing. She had to offer something for the sake of conversation. Just not anything in too much depth. Like her past or her sisters. For both of their sakes.
